Happy Birthday To Us!!

Happy Birthday to US!

Not only is the May issue of Papercut now live, but it’s also our second birthday. Woohoo!

Editor’s Picks! Sneak Peak: Kaelen FW 2012 Lookbook

As a cross-pollinating lover of all things menswear and androgyny, NYFW up-and-comer Kaelen struck a chord with the masculine/feminine duality that I crave with her FW 2012 collection. Taking note from the Roaring Twenties’changing roles of women and blurred boundaries of sexuality, the era’s progressive notions of gender identity are imbued throughout the selection of Kaelen’s starkly mannish tailoring contrasted with richly draped shift dresses.

Decoded Fashion 2012 Gets Encoded

This past Monday, Team Papercut had the honor of covering the first-ever Fashion & Technology forum, Decoded Fashion. It was the ultimate gathering of style, creativity and technical skill. Everyone from Macy's and Calvin Klein to Tumblr and Instagram were present and lent their voice to the current "fashitech" movement. To help you stay ahead of the trends, below you will find a summary of the key talking points and views that emerged from the day's events.

'As The Crow Flies' Part 3

A mere 7235 miles South-East of Norway, amongst a vibrant Indonesian population, you will
come across the endearing MaiKhanh Bertrand . A French / Vietnamese design talent with roots as a fashion stylist. Raised intermittently between Beijing, Los Angeles, Singapore and Hong Kong MaiKhanh trained in Marseilles, ultimately working in both Paris and New York. Such a constant wanderlust has undoubtedly shaped her life and inspired her designs.

Making the Mag Part 1: Papercut's Journey to the May 2012 Issue

About a month ago, one of our awesome readers, Michael McKenzie, emailed us with a very good question. He wanted to know how we got started. In typical Papercut Fashion (which you can equate to anything but typical) we decided to respond to his query with a whole new mini segment called Making The Mag. As we gear up for our two year anniversary, we figured we share some posts with you about how we got started and also chronicle the process of putting our May 2012 Issue together.

So here we go!!

In The Beginning: Digital vs Print

'As The Crow Flies' Part 1

Our environment and surroundings are paramount to our physicality our mentality and indeed
our social self’s. Genes are merely a template, eventually coloured by ones environment and the
individuals about us. Interesting then to consider how a fashion designer might consciously or
perhaps subconsciously tweak an aesthetic in relation to an altering habitat. Be this the battleship-
grey ripples of a mechanical city or the eclectic coloured buzz of a Southeast Asian Mecca (for
example)

With this in mind, it’s time to consider such a claim with the nomadic soles that globally flow from
one point to another _ with their affluent creativity in tow
