Sundark and Riverlight Dawns A New Age For Patrick Wolf

Patrick Wolf is releasing his newest album Sundark and Riverlight on September 25th. Constantly reinventing his music and appearance, his experimental sound is a mix of classical and over-the-top. Recently, he covered Lana Del Rey’s “Born to Die” and revised it to sound acoustic and heavy versus the breathy vocals that were a hallmark of Rey’s original version -- I believe this gives us a hint on what to expect from Wolf on Sundark and Riverlight. Drawing inspiration organically, his double-disc album reveals recorded acoustic versions of a variety of songs from his previous albums. Previewing the track “Overture” from The Magic Position (2007), the sound is more fleshed out orchestrally with the violins, slow beats and acoustic mood it portrays. Wolf doesn’t take away from the original tracks, but I think he intends to reinvent them, which as a listener is refreshing to experience.
